I don't really care if it's a game it just needs good gameplay, art, and a storyline.
nothing "god-like" needed there.

And as for movies I don't like %40 of the movies in the top 50, why because I'm the kind of guy that likes humor from those phoxie wrong movies, and madness from the maddness movies.

It sounds like games are a little underrated here on the portal.

I would think that if you work hard enough on a flash you should get some recognition for your efforts. However if your hard work does not pay off then there is a problem. Maybe if we are in a community where artist's create stunning work and 'wow' a lot of people then some of that creative vibe will rub off on us. Also if we are surrounded by high quality flashes then maybe that will push us to make bigger and better animation. I can't see a negative effect to this I can only see positive. If our flashes aren't getting enough attention then maybe we should take our flashes to the 'Next level'.

Yeah, your right. Maybe newer authors will be more motivated to create better flash to start off.

yeh it really does, gone now are the days when an animator would spend about 5 minutes on a flash animation for a bit of fun, as now things submitted with this sort of intention get blammed or rape reviewed comparing something to one of the things in the top 50, and the idea of working on something for ages just for it to go under the radar is one of the things that is really putting the shits up me, i guess its all about timing and getting noticed

It's not about the awards, it's about ether making something someone will enjoy, or killing boredom.

For me, it can have bad art, or bad gmaeplay, it just needs to be likeable =]

Flash is WAY harder than it looks

I'm not really talking about awards. I'm talking about the ability of certain flashes to be even noticed with the amount of higher quality submissions.

I think peoples standards get too high sometimes and people are often too worried about making a masterpiece without taking the time to just make a movie for fun.

I think entertainment is far more important than making a pretty movie with nothing else to offer.

to me quality is far beyond good drawings and as long as it entertains me even if it's terrible than at the end of the day it was all worth it.

True. I think entertainment will matter more over quality for a while yet.

i agree with powerranger... i think a beautiful looking movie/game can only take you so far.. you need a solid idea as well..

pico day was a good example how sometimes you just need a good angle as opposed to over the top matrixesque executions.. one of my favorite movies that day was nogfish's entry.. very crude very simple.. very hilaaarious.

its cool that tom recognizes that as well.. i like that he will ocassionally pick really bizarre 'crap' because he finds it funny

Also true. A decent idea is as, or even more, important to a movie than superb graphics.

Concept always trumps quality. You can take the most basic idea, and if it merits amazing gameplay or animation focus, it can speak much more than other submissions. Take Line Rider for example. Not many two-tone games can make it that far, especially on the premise that there is no real clear goal or objective.

I like the idea that an artist or game developer can be multifaceted, and not be worried by conventions or scores. Those who decide they can push the limits of anime / matrix / zomg trend are worthy of such attention.

Great point. As I've said, the quality of a flash can be spectacular, but it will fail unless there is a strong idea or concept behind it.

For me, a good Flash movie has to be funny, the art/animation doesn't have to be perfect. If someone made an amazingly drawn/animated comedy but the jokes were crap, I wouldn't like it.

Yeah, and basically the only way that you can get recognized other than that is by having a front page thing. By the way, the people who posted in here...mostly GODLY. Anyways, yeah, it will keep being harder and harder, especially along with the fast pace front page changing. That just doubles the trouble. I don't know if there's a solution is the truth. Also, I've REALLY notice that movies have just raised scores I think, rather than them actually being better like you said. I feel like it's almost left-overs from Clock Day and after that, every fucking person just fives everything. It's really weird.

Been makin' flash for over a year now. Submitted 'bout 25? Anyway In the begining of the year my 'toons weren't the best quality but, they still ended up with over 3.50+. However now if I submit one of the same quality it makes it just over the 3.00 marker. So yeah, the quality standards are rising.
For me like obviously many others. It's not about the awards, money, cool points, etc. etc. It's about the fun of animating and entertaining poeple. If my flash makes one person laugh at least then my job is done and I move onto another project.
Eventual I think the community wil just balance itself out between high and low q. standards.
