I've noticed how internet lingo like LOL, WTF and such have really developed from it being used prominently by internet nerds and chatters, to just casual phrases used by just about every web user nowadays on forums, chatrooms, ect. Most internet conversations drop a LOL every once in a while, not to sound like they are internet-savvy or just saving typing. No, it seems its become a much more casual thing on computers now.

For example, instead of it being used to shorten typing in chatting:
r0xx0rz: u r 2 1337 d00d
b0xx0rz: LOL
r0xx0rz: want 2 join my guild
b0xx0rz: GTFO n00b

Terms like LOL and others are being used in more formal internet conversation:
Joe: Hello.
Frank: What's up?
Joe: I wanted Rob to sneak out and come over to my house to watch "Rape and Murder 2: Blood n' sex Edition", but he didn't want to disobey his parents.
Frank: LOL, what a momma's boy.

Catch my drift?
